We have been very fortunate in securing a wonderful venue for this year’s summer meeting in the form of Willen Hospice’s lakeside café which is close Robert Hooke’s grade 1 listed St. Mary Magdalene Church which will be open to view for the walkers.
Programme for the evening
- 6.00pm Lakeside guided walk through Willen parkland to St Mary Magdalene, starting from the Café
- 7.00pm Reception – finger buffet, hot and cold drinks (also on patio if fine)
- 7.30pm Members’ meeting, and Excell Heritage Award presentations in the café lounge
Willen café is catering for this special event and has asked for numbers, so we’d appreciate it if you would register your attendance (see link to form below).
There is plenty of parking space in Willen Hospice main car park off Willen Road.
This meeting has been kindly hosted by Willen Village Heritage Association and the Hooke Heritage Project.
St Mary Magdalene Walk
Meet at at 6.00 pm at Willen Hospice Café. This walk will be led by Willen Village Heritage Association and last about an hour, including viewing the church interior. It is on made-up paths.
The walk will be around the churchyard, war memorial, along lake avenue, past the well and onto the lakeside, then walk back to church to talk about the history of St Mary Magdalene.
Robert Excell Heritage Award
The meeting will start at 7.30 pm and will include the announcement of the winner of this year’s Robert Excell Heritage Award.
The Heritage Award is a £500 prize given annually and presented at an MKHA Members Meeting each year. The award is to be used to undertake further heritage work. This is an opportunity to highlight the best work completed by a heritage organisation, society, or individual over the past year.
