A talk by Margaret Roberts about the history of Warden Abbey in Bedfordshire. Warden Abbey was one of the senior Cistercian houses of England, founded about 1135. What survives today is mostly a Tudor remodelling of 1550 that was once part of the abbot’s lodgings and was restored by the Landmark Trust in 1976. Unusually, Warden Abbey is both a Scheduled Monument as well as being a Grade 1 listed building.
