The Life and RAF career of Sgt Cyril Stapleton of Newport Pagnell 1925-1944.
In this presentation, Clive Stapleton narrates Cyril’s journey, starting from his childhood as the eldest in a Newport Pagnell family during the 1930s, through the wartime period, and his decision to volunteer for the RAF at the age of 18.
The discussion will then cover his training in the RAF leading up to his assignment with 207 Squadron Bomber Command, ultimately resulting in his death during operations in July 1944. This talk will draw upon family records, personal memories, photographs, and RAF documentation.
Clive Stapleton, son of Cyril’s brother Alan Stapleton, has dedicated many years to uncovering Cyril’s story. His extensive career in the aircraft industry at Rolls-Royce has deepened his interest in Cyril and motivated his research efforts.
