In  April 1979 a comprehensive survey of the ancient graffiti inscribed on the lower walls of St Peter’s church, next to the mansion at Gayhurst,  was carried out by Dr Robin Moss.

This was given to the local Rector,  for possible use in any new Guide printed for visitors to the church and a copy was only recently found in the SGA Archive.

We have decided to reproduce the document exactly as written, since much of the material consists of symbols, as above.

There are some recognisable names amongst those included eg. Bunyan and it forms a fascinating snapshot of some visitors (vandals?) to the church,  from when it was completed in 1728
