A talk by Mark Fussell.

The 306th Bombardment Group Museum is a memorial dedicated to the personnel of the 306th Bomb Group who operated from Thurleigh during WW2, as part of the Eighth Air Force.

The second Schweinfurt raid, on ball bearing factories, took place on 14 October 1943. Of the 291 B-17 Flying Fortresses sent on the mission, 60 were lost and 22 percent of the bomber crews. However, the Germans had built up enormous reserves of ball bearings and the operation against these industries would, even if successful, have achieved little.
