This is a presentation of the extremely well researched and written book, Black Redcoats, by author, history enthusiast and speaker, Matthew Taylor, who lives locally. He will expertly lead us into the world of this significant and yet little-known piece of American military history.
During the Anglo-American War enslaved African-Americans joined with British forces as a route to freedom. They developed into a corps of Colonial Marines and their exploits – including attacking the half-built White House – formed a remarkable and gripping story.
You will be able to purchase a signed copy of Matthew’s book, as well as enjoying refreshments provided by the congregation. Donations will go to the Robert Hooke Heritage Project, to provide water, toilets and an education centre at the Church.
