Baptist Chapel

Baptist Chapel, Willow Green

The first Baptist Chapel, originally located on The Green now has an address of 3 Hayes Road and faces onto today's Willow Green.

The Baptist Chapel has been much altered over the years having been put to a variety of uses, including a private residence, an Infants School. Much later the building was subsumed by the Oxide Works to become an office which following the closure of the Oxide factory was handed across by Persimmons, the developers, as part of the redevelopment scheme and designated for community use. It is now the Deanshanger Parish Council Office.

Originally built in 1833, it was still registered as a Meeting House in 1893 but was leased by Lord Penrhyn of Wicken in 1900 to be used as an Infants School until 1939. The first admission in the School Register was 4 year old Frederick Henson on 2nd July 1889, who lived opposite the Post Office. When the school finally closed in 1939 every pupil was presented with a personalized Clarice Cliff designed commemorative mug.
