Planting the Willow

Planting a Willow on the Willow Greens

DVHS’s Operation Spring Clean won first prize in a Northamptonshire competition organised by The Volunteer Trust. DVHS elected to put the prize of £250 to good use by planting a Willow tree on Willow Green, near Patrick’s Lane, as records in the archive showed a large Willow tree had once stood on the green.
Councillor Tony Wilkinson, the then Chair of South Northants Council officiated at the planting ceremony wearing his Chain of Office, he was assisted by several enthusiastic children who laid the first soil. The children assured Councillor Wilkinson they would look after the tree so it could be enjoyed by future generations of the village.
