As Milton Keynes grew more and more traffic was using the A422 towards Buckingham. All this traffic came through Deanshanger passing close to 2 schools and around a sharp bend near the Beehive Public House.

In November 1991 permission was given for the Bypass as reported in local newspapers.
The bypass finally opened in March 1993 and featured what was the longest curved footbridge in Europe at the time.
