In the 19th & 20th centuries a lot of villagers found their social and leisure activities within the local area and only went to the larger towns occasionally.

There were many social groups operating in the village which covered a wide range of  activities, ages and abilities.

The SGA Archive holds many records of these societies and groups:-

Bunch of Locals – Cricket Club – Football Club – Gardening Club – Millennium Tapestry – Mothers Union – Mums and Toddlers – Pantomime (GADS) – Scouts/Guides – Sewing Circle – Sports & Social Club – Steam Rally – Tennis Club – Thursday Club – Village Hall – Women’s Institute – Youth Club

Unfortunately, with the rise of social networks and greater mobility, many of these have not survived into the new century.
