That we are able to gaze at this artwork almost 400 years later is, ironically, due to someone’s attempt to erase it! When the paintings were whitewashed over in a more sternly Protestant ‘beautification’ in the 1770s, they were thus protected from further damage for the next 200 years, until their restoration in the 1950s. In this talk we discuss how the art of St. Guthlac’s has been brought back to life.

Last in a series of illustrated talks + discussion with Robin Goodfellow (www.blogger.com/profile/00138408404345093163)    and Jennie Dott (www.htdchurch.org/about-us). Admission free. Refreshments on sale.
