Steve Warburton,  husband of  the granddaughter of Brig-Gen C H T Lucas. will give an account  of Lucas’s time at the Western Front and his command of the Fermoy Brigade post-war, including the period of his 1920 capture, captivity and escape from Irish Republicans – supported by his ‘secret diary entries’ written whilst in captivity.

A Captain in the Royal Berkshires at the outbreak of war, CHT Lucas had by 1918 been promoted to be GOC 4th Division on France … by way of 1st Ypres, Gallipoli, the Somme, Arras, 3rd Ypres, Cambrai, the MGC and the ‘100 Days’. However, his ‘claim to fame’ was to become Officer Commanding the Fermoy Brigade in Ireland, where he was captured by the Cork Brigade of the IRA in June 1920 – but it does not end there!

Come and hear the full story. Members of the public welcome.
