Caroline Leslie – Biographical Notes
Born 1951
Caroline Leslie (Surfleet) was born in Nottingham in 1951, the 3rd of 4 children. Her 2 sisters were also artistic and they all spent long sessions drawing together using old rolls of wallpaper, if nothing else was available. She went to school and lived in Nottingham until 1969. This was when she was offered a position in the art department of a large publishing company (DC Thompson of Dundee).
After working there for four years as a commercial artist and occasional model for magazine front covers, she left DC Thompson and returned to Nottingham to begin training as a Registered nurse. However by 1973 she was married to Roger and began a family, first Adam and then Benjamin.
The family moved to rural Lincolnshire and lived there for thirteen years. During this time Caroline painted many commissions and illustrations.
In 1989 Caroline was expecting their third child (Emily), and came to live in Sherington as a result of a career move by her husband. She worked for several years in the village pre-school, but now concentrates on her artwork. In her spare time Caroline enjoys being involved in the Historical Society and also the Folk Workshop and Ceilidh band.
Caroline paints mostly landscapes in watercolour but has illustrated books and created greetings cards, some of which were reproduced and sold by the local Historical Society.
