Family History

If you are researching your family history, you may wish to view the documents in the PEOPLE Records section, which includes the 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 censuses, transcriptions of the St Laud’s monumental inscriptions, a complete copy of the St Laud’s Parish Registers up to 1912, the 1798 Posse Comitatus, details from the 1796 Enclosure Map and from the 1910 Land Survey. These records are either presented in alphabetical order of surname or in date order. There is also a list of the Rectors of St Laud’s Church since 1230, several Kelly’s Directories, and a list of online wills, plus other information.

Family History was the topic of the May 2007 SHS meeting, when SHS member Gillian Nursaw-Smith presented details of various family history resources and where to look for information. A useful check list of these sources was circulated to all SHS members with the August 2007 Newsletter and is now available to read here.
