Milton Keynes is the official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title holder for the longest line of food cans.
The record was broken at the event, MK Can, that took place in Campbell Park, Milton Keynes on 16 October 2023, when various community groups and businesses throughout Milton Keynes came together to place 102,447 cans of food all around the park.
Sherington took part in the event, donating 761 food cans – an impressive number. Volunteers from Sherington placed all the food cans for the world record attempt, then picked them all up again after the judging.
The event provided more than half of the canned food that MK Food Bank needs for an entire year, meaning thousands of families are supported for the 2023/2024 winter. During the first half of 2023, demand increased by almost 40 per cent on the same period as the previous year, and the number of households receiving support doubled. Every single day, the Food Bank needs a minimum of 4,500 food items, £530 and 55 volunteer hours just to keep open.
