The Carters Close housing development was built over three fields within the centre of the village, the largest being Carters Close and hence the name of the new development.
No-one is sure why the field came to be known Carters, but one of the wise sages from the village thinks that it was a General Carter who camped his battalion of troops in the fields while marching north during the Civil War.
The Carters Close development was built by S & S Homes. The properties were then sold through a local office of Connells Estate Agents.
The development started in the spring of 1978 and was completed by the end of 1979.
