The door to the Vestry is on your left in the organ recess. The vestry is one of the Victorian additions to the Church by The Reverend Alexander King.

 

 

 

 

 

On the walls of the vestry are four plaques, shown in the photos below with their inscriptions.

Plaque to Mr Dryden Smith

Low down on the wall at the back of the vestry, a marble plaque dedicated to Mr Dryden Smith. The inscription as follows:

Sacred to the memory of Mr Dryden Smith, late of this parish who departed this life April XIX, MDCCCX in the LXIX year of his age.

Also Mrs Ann Smith, wife of the above who departed this life March XXVIII, MDCCXCIX in the XLIII year of her age.

Also Mr Dryden Smith, eldest son of the above who departed this life Septr XIV MDCCCXX in the XL of his age. Likewise Thomas, James, Joseph & Mary, who died in infancy ‘Search me, O God and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me and lead me in the way of everlasting.’ Pl 139 v25 & 24.

 

Plaque to Rev Cromlelome

Plaque high up on the wall dedicated to the Rev. Cromlehome. The inscription reads as follows:-

On the north side of this chancel are deposited the remains of
the Rev. Cromlehome for 29 years the rector of this parish he died October 31st 1810 aged 74 years. To soothe our sorrow and thy worth, proclaim a trembling hand insribes thy much lov’d name and tho’ the preachers warning voice sincere, no more shall claim thy flocks attentive ear, no longer shall thy blameless, life display the road which points to heav’ns eternal day, yet faithful memory shall in part supply thy fair example which shall never die and cheered by hope, whilst bending o’er thy urn we had thy virtues & for better to mourn. In the same vault are interred the remains of Emma, the beloved & only daughter of Alexander & Emma Cromlehome, she died July 17th 1803 aged 7 years & 8 months. Also the remains of Emma widow of the Revd Alexander Cromlehome, she died at Leamington, Warwickshire on the 1st July 1828 aged 78 years. Let memory trace her works of boundless love then lowly bow and kiss the rod. Our sister is not dead she resteth here, her life is hid with Christ in God.

Plaque to Rev PretymanPlaque high up on the wall dedicated to the Rev Pretyman. The inscription as follows:

Sacred to the memory of the Reverend John Pretyman M.A. Prebendary of Lincoln and thirty one years rector of this parish who departed this life the 22nd of November 1842 in the 52nd year of his age. Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, from hereforth yea, saith the spirit, that they may return from their labours and their works do follow them. Also of Dorothy Jane his wife died Aug; 1873 aged 81. Let thy mercy O Lord be upon us. Ps XXXIII, 22.

 

Plaque to John Charles WilliamsPlaque high up on the wall dedicated to John Charles Williams. The inscription as follows:

Consecrated to the memory of John Charles Williams A.M. Rector of this parish and was previously Rector of Farthingstone in the county of Northamptonshire born ?? April MDCCLXXXIX died XXX November MDCCCXVIII. ‘Faithful and wise steward of the mysteries of God we rightly divided the word of truth, giving to each his portion in due season. His mortal remains lie interred at Highgate.
