During the Cold War an underground Royal Observer Corps (ROC) Monitoring Post was set up in Sherington.

It is located in the field just north of Chicheley Hill, grid reference SP 8915 4570.

It opened in March 1964 but was abandoned in September 1991.

Further details of this bunker, including several photographs, are given on the Subterranea Britannica website ‘SubBrit’ www.subbrit.org.uk. The website also has background information and details of the other monitoring posts around the country.

The following is a direct link to the local monitoring post page, where it is called the Olney Monitoring Post.

Note: the monitoring post is situated on private property and is not open to the public.
