Yardley Gobion Prize Band and its predecessor

YARDLEY ALBIONS

The band shown above includes James Glenn the gentleman with the large side whiskers. I have been told that at one time the band was led by his son George before he married and went to live at Potterspury where he became band leader there. His two other sons Charlie and William also played but did not have the enthusiasm of George who was a stickler for them practising, neither of them continued playing.  It is likely that George is the person playing the cornet far left next to him his brother Charles then youngest brother William. The two younger ones do not wear band uniform so perhaps were too young to be proper members but were coerced by their father James to practise as future members.  James Glenn was grandfather to Florrie Glenn later Florrie Pittam and great grandfather of Les Pittam (my husband) who became a trumpet player with Potterspury band in the 1940s continuing to play until his death in 2012.

I have been unable to find out where the name of this band came from.    The next band I was able to find is called Yardley Gobion Band as it appears in  band contests.  The drum appears to be the same without the words Yardley Albions on it.
